ABC 33/40’s First Alert Storm Team Visits Winfield


ABC33/40 Meteorologist James Spann Visits with Councilman Steve Martin and Officer Tommy Knight

The public was invited to join Chief Meteorologist James Spann, along with meteorologists Charles Daniel, Meaghan Thomas and Brian Peters outside Winfield City Hall on Tuesday, February 10. The crew arrived in a recreational vehicle sponsored by Burton Campers in Calera, AL.

James Spann did the weather live during ABC 33/40’s Focus at 4:00, the News at 5:00, and the News at 6:00. In between newscasts, attendees had an opportunity to take pictures with their favorite meteorologists. 

At 5:30 p.m., James Spann delivered a short message on severe weather safety. “Our goal is to make sure every family, business and church has a severe weather plan, and knows how they will receive the warnings,” said Chief Meteorologist James Spann.

A large crowd was on hand to hear James Spann's message.


Winfield Officially Welcomes Sterling RV

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley Welcomes Sterling RV

On Thursday, Feb. 5, 2014 Winfield officially welcomed Sterling RV and the DeBraga family to the city. David Thornell, President of C3 Alliance of Northwest Alabama, who was instrumental in bringing Sterling RV to Winfield welcomed a large crowd of business leaders and local area civic leaders to the newly renovated offices of the luxury Motorhome and travel trailer manufacturer. In addition to the local dignitaries, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was on hand to extend a welcome from the State of Alabama to Dave DeBraga, President of Sterling, and the company, which relocated to Winfield from Canada. Mayor Randy Price, who also worked hard in bringing the business to Winfield offered his congratulations and support to Sterling and noted that the company plans to expand operations in the near future which will bring several more new jobs to Winfield area residents. Guests enjoyed refreshments and, after the welcoming ceremony, took a tour of the facility and were able to see some of the products built by Sterling.

Curae Health to Acquire Three Alabama Hospitals


New hospital operator will strengthen healthcare in northwest Alabama 
through a strategic affiliation with Huntsville Hospital Health System

Russellville, Haleyville and Winfield, Ala. (November 20, 2014) – Curae Health today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire three northwest Alabama hospitals from LifePoint Hospitals. The hospitals, Russellville Hospital in Russellville, Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville, and Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, will be the first to join Curae Health, a not-for-profit health system specializing in positioning rural community hospitals for long-term success.

As part of Curae Health, the hospitals will have a strategic affiliation with Huntsville Hospital Health System, which includes Alabama's largest community-owned and -governed, not-for-profit hospital serving patients throughout north Alabama and southern Tennessee.

“Curae Health was founded to strengthen rural hospitals and improve the healthcare available in rural communities,” said Curae Health CEO Steve Clapp. “I am excited to build our system with these three great Alabama hospitals. Together with Huntsville Hospital Health System, we have great opportunities to improve care across northwest Alabama.”

Through this partnership, Russellville Hospital, Lakeland Community Hospital and Northwest Medical Center will have access to enhanced physician recruiting, continuing education programs and other clinical and operational support through Huntsville Hospital Health System.
